Palma Day

Today was the second time we planned to go to the Miro museum on a Monday...and it's closed every Monday, duh! So instead we went to the local market, saw another cathedral and monastery, and went to a lovely park to play.

The market was fun! Nothing super exciting, but lots of great food and garden items. We got lots of bread and pastries, and also got some meat (including rabbit!)

My absolute favorite thing about visiting Europe.

The we went to Palma's Franciscan monastery and cathedral. It was lovely!

Ramon Llull, a Mallorcan hero, is buried here. He was a Franciscan monk who studied multiple languages and religions in order to travel the world and teach about Christ. He mainly traveled in the Middle East in the 1200s to learn and teach.

This is how we do timeout on vacation, "Put your nose in the corner!" :)

There were supposed to be sculptures representing all the liberal arts, to honor Llull's devotion to learning.

The royal Mallorcans who entered the order of the Franciscans. At least one even gave up the crown for the monastery.

The cathedral also honor Junipero Serra, who went to America to spread Catholicism. Apparently people here believe he founded Los Angeles and San Francisco. I'm not too sure about that.

After the cloisters we went to a park the kids have been begging to go to. Mallorca is so wonderful for kids in that there are fantastic playgrounds everywhere. Practically every block has another, and not just in Palma. We find them all over the island. The kids have been thrilled.

Being silly

We got to see the sun for a few hours before the rain rolled in again!

We parked right by the cathedral, and it seemed like a great opportunity for some awesome jump pictures. Even the kids got in on the fun!

My fave!
