CIty of Echoes

Today we found a cool little museum without many tourists (hooray!). It was a series of ancient Roman apartments with intact frescoes from ancient Roman and medieval times. It was a lot of fun wandering through the underground rooms, finding all kinds of interesting things to see. And since not many people were there, the kids could have a little more freedom to run around instead of being kept on a short leash.

The pictures are pretty grainy because, naturally, you couldn't use flash. I'm amazed that they let you walk around such ancient rooms with such incredibly old art still right there on the walls!

This is one of the oldest frescoes there, from ancient Roman times, about 300 AD I believe.

At the end of the apartments they had a museum full of ancient artifacts with all kinds of interesting details about them.

I like these lamps. They made me think of the parable of the 10 virgins.

A fresco taken off the wall to preserve.

These marble stamps are cool. This one dates back to the time of Christ!

As we left I saw this tribute to Mother Theresa. I thought it was really nice.

There is so much antiquity in Rome it's hard to fathom!
